Hoyt - if you know of a good solution for doing this please let me know. Right now we're trying to set up mod_throttle or mod_limitipconn, but if there is an easier way, by all means enlighten me :) Thanks in advance for any advice you can give.

I'd say you're right with the mod_limitipconn module. The person that developed that did it for the same reason you need it. I've not set it up before, so I wouldn't be of much help more than to say: yeah, do that :)

The mod_throttle though would limit you to a certain bandwidth, I wouldn't think that would be what you want. Then someone on a 56k would be alloted the same bandwidth as someone on an OC-3.

I think mod_throttle is a good idea, throttle bandwidth on ftp as well. Limit the number of connections and bandwidth. But also advertise the p2p efforts that you're working on to provide a little bit of "carrot", ie "Bandwidth for downloading by ftp and http is limited to Xkbps, there are no limits on bandwidth for using bittorrent".

The other suggestion I have is to make low quality versions (mp3, ogg vorbis) of the files available. I at least choose not to download files sometimes because of their size. I'm not familiar w/ most of the bands on the IA but downloading for hours on end to listen to a few tracks and then deciding I'm not interested is not efficient from my point as an end user, nor for the IA's bandwidth situation. The movies section of the site provides "preview" quality files, I think it would be a good idea to do this for the audio as well.
